ddclient.service failed because a timeout was exceeded.

Post by jpowers4 »

I am trying to set up ddclient. This is what I did

Code: Select all

sudo pacman -S ddclient
edited config file as root.
tested I did it correctly by running

Code: Select all

ddclient -daemon=0 -noquiet -debug
This was the response form that (it appears to be working)

Code: Select all

DEBUG: proxy =
DEBUG: url = dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com/getip
DEBUG: server = dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com
DEBUG: get_ip: using web, dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com/getip reports 24.2.86.53
now I run this command as shepherd (I have also run it as root just to check and I get the same response)

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl enable --now ddclient.service
response

Code: Select all

Job for ddclient.service failed because a timeout was exceeded.
See "systemctl status ddclient.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
If it is needed I can provide the output from running "systemctl status ddclient.service" and "journalctl -xe" since I don't quite understand what the output means.

Please let me know if there is a solution to this problem. Thx.

Post the output of

Code: Select all

sudo journalctl -u ddclient
since the last time you attempted to start ddclient.service.

Not sure what's going on there. Works fine for me. Do you have a leftover file /run/ddclient.pid lying around there? Or running a second version? Or as something else than root?

I do not have ddclient.pid file at all, and not in the run directory. I don't know if systemctl is supposed to make one for me but, I don't have one neither before nor after the command is run.

The only changes I have made to my system is to add ssl to my nextcloud server, running

Code: Select all

sudo pacman -S ddclient
and the modification of the /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf file

I don't know what to suggest. Maybe recheck the content of your config file?
And reboot and see whether ddclient.service comes up clean?
